Cause you can’t jump the track…

Breathe_cover I’ve been listening to a variety of music recently while in the search for new artists, and thanks to my brother, I ran across this single from Anna Nalick called “Breathe.” Besides the fact that she has an incredible name :-), the creative lyrics and catchy sound have gotten it stuck in my head for the past two or three days straight, so I figured it was worth a blog post. Maybe that will get it out of my head.

The bridge from the verses into the chorus is this:

“Cause you can’t jump the track / We’re like cars on a cable / and life’s like an hourglass / glued to the table…” I think the first line that struck me was the one about the hourglass. I love it when a song makes me go “huh” and sort of pause. And this is oh so true. We can’t get the grains of sand back into the hourglass, and we can’t turn it over and start again. What’s happened has happened.

The chorus then is a reminder to “breathe, just breathe” because you can’t live in the past, and you can’t get into the future. In that regard we are “on a track” or “cable,” because life will progress from start to finish. It’s what we do with the time that we have in the middle that matters, and yes it does help to breathe and enjoy the present.

After all, with our God, our sins have been cast away to the depths of the ocean (Micah 7:19), and so we can forget what lies behind and live by pressing forward to attain that which Christ Jesus has already attained for us (Phil 3:13) because his thoughts are more in number then the grains of sand(Psalm 139:17-18), (that’s the sand in the sea, not the sand in the hourglass) and he knows the plans he has for us, plans to prosper us, to give us hope and a future (Jer 29:11).

Wreck of the day

So breathe.

By the way, the whole cd is supposed to come out in march according to her website. The single is available on Itunes here.

Not only that, it was the free download a couple of weeks ago. It pays to keep track of those things…
